The 2016 Presidential Election was the first election in 50 years without the Voting Rights Act.
After the Supreme Court gutted basic protections to our innate right to vote, Republicans set to work guaranteeing that Democratic-leaning voters wouldn’t be able to cast their ballots.
And it worked.
A shocking new report analyzing this year’s election revealed widespread and significant voting problems across the country.
These voting problems are the DIRECT result of the Supreme Court gutting the Voting Rights Act in 2013. Since then, the Court has allowed states to pass their own election rules without federal approval.
And predictably, budgets were slashed and urban neighborhoods that consistently vote Democratic were hit significantly harder than rural, Republican-leaning areas.
That’s why we’re calling on Congress to restore the Voting Rights Act, so everyone has the opportunity to participate in our Democracy:
This November was one of the most consequential elections in modern history.
And Republican elected officials managed to steal it — and elect one of the most unqualified Presidents in U.S. history — by suppressing the Democratic vote.
We cannot afford to let this happen again.
Voting is one of the most fundamental components of a healthy democracy. And unless Congress restores the Voting Rights Act, millions of Americans will continue to be robbed of this basic right.
We’re collecting 25,000 signatures to DEMAND Congress restore the Voting Rights Act immediately. Will you sign on?
Thanks for standing up for democracy,
– The Progressive Turnout Project
